Such a heartwarming story. Cheerful, vibrant pictures. Love Scout and his friends. A rainy day spoils the day’s plans and the animals have fun anyways. Highly recommend.
I was blessed with an ARC. Thank you NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own and unbiased.
Four Point Five Stars Scout the goat is excited because Farmer Ray is to take them to the County Fair that day. But just as Scout’s luck would have it, before they start it starts pouring. They are all stuck in the barn. Scout is grumpy and sad. That is when he hears laughter and fun around him. The animals in the barn bring the Fair to the place and they have so much fun. Lovely illustrations and cute story of enjoying what is and having fun at something else when things don’t go according to plan. Good read for older children. Scout's Rainy Day is an excellent read for kids and adults, and grandparents will love reading this to their grandkids. When a rainy day keeps Scout and the barnyard animals from enjoying the Fair, they adapt and have a blast inventing other games. It's a fun way for kids to think about changing plans and engineering new fun when the original plans go south. Kudos to author Natalie Horseman for another incredible Children's Storybook and for reminding us all to be flexible and adaptable in our lives.
A cozy, feel-good read that turns rainy days into pure fun!
My kids adore Scout the goat, and Scout’s Rainy Day might be our favorite in the series so far. What starts as a gloomy, stormy day turns into a sweet adventure full of imagination, friendship, and laughter. I love how this story shows kids that it’s okay when plans change and sometimes that’s when the best memories happen! The illustrations are bright and cheerful, and Scout’s energy is contagious. It’s the perfect read for snuggling up on a rainy afternoon.
A cheerful story about finding joy when plans change. It is such a sweet reminder that a little imagination can turn disappointment into fun. Scout’s rainy-day adventure feels warm and real, with a lovely message about resilience and friendship. It's a perfect pick for cozy story time.
Goat on the Go: Scout's Rainy Days is about Scout and his farm animal friends that are so excited to go to the fair, but soon find out they aren't going because of the raining coming in. The last thing Scout wants is to be stuck in the barn on a rainy day, but as he soon discovers, there's still a lot of fun to be had on a rainy day.
I can see little ones finding this super cute, and I can imagine there'd be some buy in from them if you were to read it in a classroom setting. It would be a great opportunity to discuss how to react when things don't go as planned as well. There's also room to discuss what students and littles might want to do on their next rainy day.
Thank you NetGalley and Horseman Publishing for giving me an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Hello, parents and children! Together with my little one, we read a new children's book and I was excited about it. This is the third book in the series and the first one that we are reading. Its theme is emotions and friendship. The author's writing is sweet, tender, true and touches on the issues of adaptability, the power of friendship, problems, for which there is always a solution as long as we look at the problem calmly and without considering it to be a mountain. The images are colorful with bright colors and the emotions are clearly visible on the faces of the book's characters, even the negative ones, which we should not be afraid to express.
Scout the goat can’t wait for the county fair—but when a storm ruins the plans, his frustration is loud and familiar: “That’s not fair!” Young readers will instantly relate to Scout’s disappointment and cheer as his friends turn a gloomy day into a joyful barnyard fair. With playful text and charming illustrations, Scout's Rainy Day is a sweet, engaging story about handling letdowns and finding fun in unexpected places. Perfect for ages 3–7, it’s a great pick for teaching resilience, empathy, and creative problem-solving. A must-have for any child who’s ever felt let down—and every grown-up who’s helped them through it.
Goat on the Go: Scout's Rainy Day, is a delightful story about animals on a farm looking forward to a day at a County Fair. Scout, the ever-curious young goat, asks his animal friends what it will be like. But when it begins to rain and the animals have to cancel their trip, the farmer brings all of the animals into the barn. Scout feels disappointed until he joins in, when his animal friends start making up fun games to play. I think this book shows children how being creative and using ingenuity can transform a rainy outdoor day into a sunny indoor day. The illustrations are inviting and upbeat. I highly recommend this book!
This book was a hit at my house! Scout the Goat is so excited to travel to the fair with his friends, but rain derails their plans and they are forced to stay in the barn - leading them to create new games and finding fun in a different way than they were expecting for the day.
After we finished reading, my 5.5 year old and I had a discussion about being flexible, and understanding that sometimes plans change but we can still have fun - it just might look different than our original idea.
The illustrations were very cute, the story was cute and we will definitely be checking out other titles from this series.
I read this book with my daughter and we both thoroughly enjoyed Scout's Rainy Day.
I really liked the way that the book was written, the author's writing style was great, the words used were simple and easy to read and understand and that really made the story enjoyable and fun for my daughter. The book has some positive messaging too regarding being able to adapt and change your plans.
I thought that the illustrations were great and they helped to bring the story to life - Scout is a great little character and we really liked reading about his adventure!
It is 4.5 stars from me for this one, rounded up to 5 stars for Goodreads and Amazon!
Goat on the Go: Scout's Rainy Day is a charming, heartwarming read that my preschooler loved! The illustrations are bright, cheerful, and full of personality—Scout the goat is instantly lovable.
The story is simple yet engaging, teaching a sweet lesson about finding adventure and fun even when the weather isn't perfect. It’s written with a wonderful rhythm that makes it a joy to read aloud. It held my little one's attention from beginning to end, which is no small feat! A definite five stars and a must-have for any young child's bookshelf.
I love how Scout the Goat gets to feel and express his emotions and no one judges him for it. He's (reasonably) disappointed that he can't go to the fair, and instead of making him feel silly for it, his friends try to comfort him, and then come up with an alternative to the fair - first without Scout, who is given space to experience his feelings, but letting him join in as soon as he feels ready to.
The illustrations are very cute as well, with nice and bright colours and lots of cute animals.
Scout's Rainy Day is a cute story about finding the fun when plans change for the worse. Scout and his friends were so excited to go to the fair but a storm forced them stay in the barn instead. While Scout was frustrated and sad about missing the fair, his friends cheered him up by finding games and activities to do right where they were! My 4 year old son's favorite part was when the animals had a race in the barn and Scout won! He also really liked Odin the horse. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy!
Goat on the Go: Scout's Rainy Day by Natalie Horseman and illustrated by Cosette Alcalde
This is a great book about imagination and turning a bad day good. Scout is sad because he can't go to the fair because it is raining. Farmer puts all the animals in the barn, and they use their imagination and creativity. This is a good book to teach about different animals and inspire creativity in young ones. The illustrations are very good especially of Scout and his expressions. I recommend this book for story time or pre school.
Started off a bit more dull than some of the other books in the series. Scout and the rest of the barnyard are excited since it is time to go to the county fair. And to build up their expectations and excitement, all the older animals mention what they like best. But then bad weather arrives...
Here we meet more animals from the barnyard although their personalities aren't too developed. And their solution to the disappointment that occurs is heartwarming.
The illustrations are full page and cartoonish with exaggerated facial features for the animals, especially Scout.
This illustrated-children's book tells a fun adventure of Scout the goat who wonders outside his fence or place of dwelling and meets in his adventures several animals: pigs, cows, hens, a rooster, a horse and try to have fun by trying things that don't go well. All ends well. He returns home and is received by his friends and his good owner. This is a book with colorful pictures and quite suitable for children of small ages. A very entertaining children's book this is.
This was a really cute book for young kids. The amount of words per page is pretty close to perfect for a young elementary listener. The pictures are bright and engaging with a sketchy, loose feeling. The baby goat felt relatable as he worked through his emotions after a disappointment. Overall, I would recommend this for families who love farm themes. Thank you NetGalley for the free review copy.
The kids and I loved this book. I particularly enjoyed the lesson of making the most out your situation and using those lemons to make lemonade, so to speak. This is a pivotal lesson for young readers who could easily have trouble dealing with kind of disappointment that scout encountered due to the rainy day. The kind of story that you can reference to your young ones as a reminder to be more like Scout whenever things don't necessarily go as planned!
The children's book "Goat on the Go" is a story about a goat who was sad when a sudden thunderstorm kept him from going to the fair. He quickly found other ways to have fun and had an amazing day! The story and illustrations will surely inspire your kids, fostering their creativity and imaginations.
This book is adorable! Out on the farm a little goat named Scout is looking forward to his first visit to the county fair, but a terrible thunderstorm washes out their plans. The illustrations are cute and detailed and really add to the story. There’s a great conclusion I don’t want to spoil. Just a great picture book for bedtime or story time circles, perfect for a children’s bookshelf.
Scout's Rainy Day is a great read aloud story for parents and grandparents. It perfectly sends the message that even when things don't go our way, we can find ways to compensate and make the best of negative situations (a reminder for all of us). Natalie has a wonderful way of communicating these things gently to children. Highly recommend.
Scout’s Rainy Day shows us how to turn a sad negative into a fun positive! When Mother Nature canceled their trip to the County Fair, Scout and all his farm animal friends created all their own fun and games in the barn! A great lesson for young children; there is always a Plan “B”.
Scout’s Rainy Day is a delightful addition to the Goat on the Go series and will help kids learn how to deal with disappointment. It’s a heart-felt ‘when life gives you lemons’ story about the value of making lemonade with your friends. As with the other books in the series, the illustrations are darling. I got an advance review copy.
My daughter is just about to have a birthday too so by the end she thought it was about her. Because we also just went to our state fair 2 months ago. Lol. This is adorable. She loved the animals and I loved that it shows you how to kaoe the best out of a rainy day.
Adorable and colorful farm animals help to navigate their friend Scout to feel better about canceled plans due to rain. It’s a very enjoyable story and can easily help your little ones with unexpected changes to the schedule. We can still have a fun day together and still enjoy a fun activity once the weather passes.
This was a really sweet and fun read for young children. The story is simple and easy to follow, and the little goat’s adventure keeps kids interested. My child enjoyed the funny moments, and the colorful illustrations made it even more engaging. It’s a nice book for bedtime or quick story time, especially for kids who love animal stories. Very cute and enjoyable.
My two children really enjoyed this book! They loved the pictures and the story. They thought it was nice that the other animals helped scout have a good day even though he couldn't do what he wanted to!
Cute little goat Scout learns how to face disappointment when his plans don't go as he expects. His friends are able to show him that a good time can be had even when it was unplanned and unexpected. Lovely story that kids can relate to.
