A Month-by-Month Guide to 2026's Mysteries & Thrillers

Posted by Cybil on January 1, 2026
A Sri Lankan cab driver finds her latest passenger murdered in the back seat of her NYC taxi. A corporate retreat gets deadly when someone sabotages a private safari. A butler and a foul-mouthed matriarch team up to solve a murder in a hermetically sealed mansion, circa 1910.

These are just a few of the mysteries on offer in the new year as we break down the most anticipated titles coming in 2026. We’ve assembled below a month-by-month guide to upcoming mysteries and thrillers, sorted by publication date. As always, the selection is generated by tracking early reviews and monitoring which titles are being added to Goodreads members’ Want to Read shelves.

Mystery and thriller fans will recognize several genre regulars coming back to shelves this year, including Tana French, Jane Harper, Lisa Jewell, and Riley Sager. You’ll find several buzzy debuts in the mix, too, like Imani Thompson’s Honey, concerning a fed-up graduate student on tilt. And Laura Dave’s 2021 megahit (and Apple TV+ show), The Last Thing He Told Me, gets that sequel novel everyone’s been waiting for.

Look for some interesting crossover stories, as well: Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Colson Whitehead concludes his beloved Harlem Trilogy with Cool Machine. And horror specialist Silvia Moreno-Garcia (Mexican Gothic) delivers a shady noir set in 1940s Mexico with The Intrigue.
