I found this book listed as one of the best suspense novels of 2017 so I cam here to see what my fellow GoodRead community thinks. I was stalled by, "from a writer and producer of the Emmy winning Fox TV show Empire." If I do not like the tv show, is it worth reading the book?

It seemed to me part of a series. There were events that occurred previously and ended with a cliffhanger, yet I cannot find anything. It was great as a stand alone novel. Am I missing something?
Rachel It's the first book in a series. Goodreads has it listed as "Highway 59 book #1" as does Attica Locke's website. So it seems there is more to come.

Did anyone else find Isaacs involvement as a little hard to believe? Darren's actions also seemed to be constantly at odds with his supposedly firm Ranger code to do the right thing.

At the risk of being branded a prude- does anyone even use that word anymore?- what would the rating of this book be if it were a movie? How's the language? I've never finished a book and thought-"wow if only there were MORE cussing it would have been much more enjoyable". On the other hand I don't expect a white supremacist to say,"Golly gee Bob I sure don't care for African Americans". So can anybody help me out?
